Randburg Workshop

Brakes and clutches, checked before they are touched.

Brakes and clutches wear out slowly, then suddenly feel wrong. If you have been searching for brakes and clutches near me because of a noise, a vibration or a pedal that does not feel right, bring the car to Fangio Auto Randburg in Blairgowrie. We inspect it, tell you in plain language what is worn and what is not, and quote before any work starts.

Read about the signs below, or WhatsApp us what you hear or feel along with the make, model and year. For the wider picture, see the main site's pages on brake repair and clutch replacement, or the Fangio Auto Randburg branch page.

Brake Repairs

Brake Repairs in Randburg

Brakes are a safety system. We would rather replace a worn part early than have you find out in traffic.

Pads and Discs

Pads are the part that wears away, and discs wear and warp more slowly. We measure what is left of each, replace pads in axle sets and tell you whether the discs can stay or must be replaced with them.

Calipers

A caliper that sticks makes one wheel hot, wears one pad faster and pulls the car to one side. We check that they move freely and quote for a repair or replacement if one does not.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can corrode the system from inside. We check the level and condition and replace the fluid when it is due.

Signs Your Brakes Need Attention

  • A high squeal when you brake, usually the wear indicator on a pad.
  • A grinding noise, which can mean the pad is gone and metal is on metal.
  • Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel when you slow down.
  • A soft or spongy pedal, or one that sinks towards the floor.
  • The car pulling to one side under braking.
  • A brake warning light on the dashboard.

Hills, Traffic and Wear

Stop-start traffic and the steep streets of Northcliff and the ridge suburbs are hard on brakes, and drivers from there bring us more brake work than almost anything else. If you notice any sign on the list, do not wait for the next service. If one is due anyway, our car service in Randburg includes a brake inspection.

Clutch Repairs

Clutch Replacement in Randburg

A worn clutch rarely fails all at once. It slips, drags or gets heavy first.

Clutch Kit Replacement

A clutch kit is the friction plate, the pressure plate and the release bearing, and we replace them together so the new parts work with each other. The gearbox comes out to reach them, which is why we do the checks below at the same time.

Flywheel Check

With the clutch off, we inspect the flywheel for scoring, heat marks and wear. If it can be reused we tell you so, and if not we show you why and quote for the replacement before going ahead.

Slipping or Heavy Clutch

Engine revs that climb without the car speeding up point to a slipping clutch. A heavy pedal can be the clutch or the parts that operate it. We find which one before we quote.

Signs Your Clutch Is Going

  • The revs rise but the car does not pick up speed, especially uphill.
  • The pedal feels heavy, or the biting point has moved up or down.
  • Gears are hard to select, or the car shudders as you pull away.
  • A burning smell after hill starts or heavy traffic.
  • A grinding or whirring noise when you press the pedal.

How It Works at Our Workshop

  • Call or WhatsApp with the make, model, year and what you notice.
  • Bring the car to 110 Susman Avenue, Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:30. We are closed weekends and public holidays.
  • We inspect it and send you a quote on WhatsApp with the parts and the work listed.
  • The repair starts only after you say yes. If we find more, we ask first.
Questions

Brake and Clutch Questions

How do I know my brake pads need replacing?

The usual signs are a high squeal when you brake, a grinding noise, a longer stopping distance or a warning light. Pads wear down gradually, so the earlier we look, the more likely it is that only pads are needed and the discs can stay.

Is it safe to drive with a soft brake pedal?

No. A pedal that feels spongy, sinks towards the floor or needs pumping can mean air or moisture in the brake fluid, a leak or a failing part. Have it inspected before you drive any further than you need to.

How long does a clutch last?

It depends on the car and on how it is driven. Heavy stop-start traffic and hill starts wear a clutch faster than steady highway driving. Slipping, a high biting point or a heavy pedal are the signs that it is reaching the end.

Do you replace the flywheel with the clutch?

Not always. We check the flywheel when the clutch comes off. If it is worn, scored or damaged we tell you, show you and quote for it. If it is fine, it stays.

Will you tell me what it costs before you start?

Yes. We inspect the car first, then send a written quote on WhatsApp that lists the parts and the labour. Nothing is done until you approve it, and if we find something else we ask before we touch it.
